The Force 5 Sports Team, a multi-sport club, came to reality in 2005 from a group of athletes of various expertise and abilities on the Ct shoreline. The core group began masters swim training in the fall of 2003 and the training soon expanded to cycling and running sessions and social gatherings. This social interaction created some great friendships and 11 members of the group all went down to St. Petersburg, Fla in April 2005 to participate in the St. Anthony's Triathlon. After such a great trip, the group returned and the Force 5 Sports Team was created based upon the following criteria: Social interaction and camaraderie Training sessions Creating and identity Opportunity to improve individual goals Acceptance - regardless of ability Information sharing and group support |

WHAT DOES FORCE 5 MEAN? In marine terms, FORCE is a gauge of wind speed. Force 5 is a strong and fast wind of 19-24 mph and can cause significant waves of 3-5 ft! In order to swim in Force 5 winds, you need to be tough physically and mentally! If you bike in Force 5 winds you are either going very slow against the wind or you feel like Lance if the wind is behind you. If you run in Force 5 winds, you are constantly strategizing to determine the right time to draft off the person in front of you! If there is one!!! So bottom line, Force 5 stands for strength, toughness, fast, slow and mental focus and determination! |
